Kobane, Syria – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) opened fire against a boat carrying civilians while crossing the Euphrates River in northern Syria. One woman was reportedly killed in the incident on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses told ARA News that the passengers were from the Kurdish city of Kobane in Aleppo province.

“Family members of Ismail Muslim took the boat to cross the river after returning from the city of Aleppo. They were heading to the village of Qara Qozak,” locals told ARA News. “They were obliged to use a boat as extremists of IS are besieging the area and are preventing civilians from using the bridge of Qara Qozak on the Euphrates.”
