Kobane, Syria – On Friday the President of Iraqi Kurdistan, Masoud Barzani, called for international intervention to protect the Kurdish city of Kobane in northern Syria, which is currently under attacks of the Islamic State’s (IS) militants.

“I call on the international community to use every means as soon as possible to protect Kobane,” Barzani said in a statement. “IS terrorists must be hit and destroyed wherever they are.”

According to Local sources, thousands of Kobane’s residents crossed the borders into Turkey on Friday.

These developments followed an unprecedented advance by IS militant fighters in the surrounding areas of Kobane.
