Qamishli, Syria – The revolutionary youth movement of “Ciwanen Shoresh Ger” called for a protest on Wednesday in Qamishli city, northeast of Syria, where hundreds of pro-Democratic Union Party (PYD) residents gathered under “Freedom for Öcalan” slogan.
The protesters demanded an immediate release to the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Abdullah Öcalan, who is jailed by the Turkish authorities in Imrali Island since 1999.
The protesters expressed their support to Ocalan’s (also known as Apo) strife inside his prison and condemned “the racial chauvinistic policy of Erdogan’s Government”.
The protesters also showed their support to the Kurdish forces of Peshmerga in defending Iraqi Kurdistan and other Iraqi cities and provinces against the attacks of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group (ISIL).
They also denounced “ISIL’s crimes against civilians”.
Haval Temmo, member of the Revolutionary Youth Movement and a participant in Qamishli protest, told ARA News “We endorse the agreement between the Popular Protection Units (YPG) –linked to the Democratic Union Party ‘PYD’– and Peshmerga forces against ISIL attacks on west and south Kurdistan (the Kurdish majority areas in Syria and Iraq).”
